If you’re wondering why you haven’t read much from me lately, it’s because I’ve mostly been bedridden for the past week or so. This post is about my ongoing medical misadventures so if you don’t want to read about my annoying health problems, feel free to skip this post and I’ll try to write about something more interesting later if I am up to it.

As regular readers are aware, I have been fighting advanced late stage Lyme Disease and other tick borne diseases since this past spring when we finally figured out what has been crippling me for so many years. I had been making great progress and was optimistic about hopefully getting this thing behind me some time soon before my lungs failed and I ended up hospitalized last month, but from what I’ve seen of other people who have had these illnesses, full recovery could be year away, if it is ever achieved although ongoing treatment does help people regain more function and a better quality of life. Part of my treatment includes aggressive antibiotics, which leave a person susceptible to mycosis infections, especially if the immune system is damaged, which mine is. I was diagnosed with a systemic fungal infection a while back but with treatment I was getting better and the miserable deep bone pain that had plagued me for years had finally subsided, but while I was in the hospital, they would not give me the Diflucan I had been taking which had put that infection on the run and the steroids they gave me to fix my lungs left me even more prone to a relapse of the systemic infection, which is what has me all messed up now.

I don’t want to get into too much gory details about how this infection effects me, but my digestive system is not my friend, my bone pain is back with a vengeance, I am running high fevers again that come with painful chills and alternate with very low body temperatures, and my lower back on the sides feels like someone is constantly running it through a meat grinder, and pain in my back just sucks the life out of me and has rendered me pretty useless lately. I am exhausted from the pain. When it got to be too much to bear and it just got worse with every passing day, I finally called my specialist two days ago and he called in a script for a new medicine that kills fungus which has invaded body organs; my kidneys and GI tract appear to be where this infection is running rampant. A fungal kidney infection will cause fevers that don’t respond to antibiotics, which explains my weird fevers and probably also the horrible pain in my lower back. I am not expecting miracles, but I would like to at least get this under control enough so I can get more stuff done around the house and also to get back to writing more again.

I’m also having more Lyme symptoms again, like joint pain, and my eyes are really messed up. I still have to wear a hat with a brim outside because my eyes cannot tolerate sunlight at all and I wear glasses but do not have any prescription sunglasses. In a perfect world I could go to the eye doctor and get new glasses, which I need as it has been eight years since I had my eyes checked and prescription updated, but this world is far from perfect and I am still in the hole for thousands of dollars due to all the lung problems I had last month so that ain’t gonna happen any time soon.

Hopefully the new medicine will at least make my lower back stop screaming so loudly by this weekend because I have an appointment with my specialist that I do not want to miss. That’s the doctor who I have to make a 100 mile round trip drive to see, with gasoline at nearly five dollars a gallon here. My tank is empty right now so I am not sure how I am going to make it, but the appointment is important so I’ll try to figure something out.

My asthma has been acting up as well, but not as bad yet as it was when I ended up in the hospital, and the portable nebulizer that one of my kind readers helped me to get has been very helpful, thank God. I think the asthma flare may be weather related because it has been cold here, so I am not too worried about it at the moment because it is more of a nuisance right now than the terrorizing suffocation that it had been last month. I am almost out of the medicine for my little nebulizer machine though, and that is yet another expense that I can ill afford being that I am still so far behind on bills due to the financial beating I took just to stay alive. Everything is a hassle when you’re sick and broke!

I need to get better so I can earn money, I hate being so sick and tired, I really do! So that’s what’s going on with me, and now you know. I am feeling a little bit better today than I did yesterday, so hopefully that’s a sign that the new medicine is doing what it is supposed to do. If you ca spare a prayer, it would be greatly appreciated because I need all the help I can get.

Sorry for such a dull blog post, but some people have asked what’s been going on with me and this seems like the easiest way to let anyone who is interested know. I need to rest a bit now, but I will try to get back here to write about something more interesting than my medical nightmare soon. Thanks for stopping by, I love you all.

PS Please keep my dear friend Amusing Bunni in your thoughts and prayers; my problems pale in comparison to hers and she still needs all of your prayers, support, and love. Thank you.
